Starting goods
Each player gets 2 [DATE], 2 [SALT], 2 [PEPPER], 1 [GOLD], and 2 [VP] tokens with a total value of 4 (1 x [VP-1] token and 1 x [VP-3] token).
Starting player
The player who was the last to eat dates will get the starting player token and takes the first turn; if neither player has eaten dates, the blue player starts.
Hand limit
Each player is only allowed to hold 1 tribe card in his or her hand at a time.
Supply limit
If a player has more than 10 goods and/or more than 3 [GOLD] after carrying out his or her actions, he or she has to return the extra material to the supply.
Game end
The game ends at the end of the round in which one player plays his or her twelfth tribe card, or if the robber reaches the fourth [RAID] card.
End game tie-breaker
In case of a tie in points, the player with the most gold wins; if this is also a tie, the player with the most goods wins; and if that is also a tie, the game ends undecided.
To set up the game of Targi: 1. **Border Cards:** Place the 16 border cards around the edge of the playing area, ordered from 1-16 clockwise, as shown in the illustration. These cards remain in position throughout the game. You can use the written side up for your first game or turn them over at any time. 2. **Center Cards:** Shuffle the goods cards and tribe cards separately. Then, draw 5 goods cards and 4 tribe cards and lay them face up on the 9 center spaces in an alternating pattern. 3. **Remaining Card Stacks:** Place the stack of remaining tribe cards next to the "tribal expansion" border card, and the stack of remaining goods cards next to the "caravan" border card. 4. **General Supply:** Place the Date, Salt, Pepper, Gold, and Victory Point tokens next to the playing area to form a general supply. 5. **Robber:** Set the robber figure next to the number 1 border card ("noble"). 6. **Player Components:** Each player receives 3 Targi figures and 2 tribe markers in their chosen color. Each player also gets 2 Date tokens, 2 Salt tokens, 2 Pepper tokens, 1 Gold token, and 2 Victory Point tokens (1 with a value of 1 and 1 with a value of 3). 7. **Starting Player:** The player who last ate dates takes the starting player token and the first turn. If neither player has eaten dates, the blue player starts.
On your turn, you will primarily place your figures and then carry out actions: 1. **Placement of Targi figures** Players take turns positioning their 3 Targi figures one by one on the border cards. You cannot place a figure on the card occupied by the robber, on a Raid corner card, on a card where one of your own Targi or an opposing player's Targi is standing, or on a card opposite an opposing player's Targi. 2. **Placement of tribe markers** After all Targi figures have been placed, each player places their 2 tribe markers on the center cards at the intersections "drawn" between two of their own Targi figures. 3. **Carrying out actions** You then carry out the actions indicated by the cards on which your Targi figures and tribe markers are standing. The starting player carries out all of their actions first, then the second player carries out all of theirs. You can choose the order in which you take your actions, but each card's action must be completed before beginning the next. You also have the option not to carry out any given action. After completing an action on a border card, you take back the Targi figure from that card.

The player with the most Victory Points at the end of the game is the winner. To determine Victory Points, players add up: * Victory Points from their silver cross tokens and the silver crosses depicted on their tribe cards. * Extra points from specific tribe cards, as written on those cards. * Extra points for completed rows of four tribe cards: 4 points for rows with the same symbol, and 2 points for rows with four different symbols. In case of a tie for Victory Points, the player with the most gold wins. If there is still a tie, the player with the most goods wins. If it is still a tie, the game ends undecided.
Scoring in Targi happens at the end of the game. The game ends in one of two ways: * At the end of the round in which one player plays their twelfth tribe card. If the starting player ends the game this way, the opposing player still gets one complete turn. * Immediately if the robber reaches the fourth Raid card, after players pay 1 Gold or 3 Victory Points (VP). Once the game ends, players add up their Victory Points from several sources: * Silver cross VP tokens. * Silver crosses depicted on their displayed tribe cards. Tribe cards show 1, 2, or 3 VP in their lower right corner. * Extra points listed on some tribe cards. * Extra points for symbols in completed rows of 4 cards: * 4 points for rows with the same symbol. * 2 points for rows with 4 different symbols. The player with the most points wins. In case of a tie, the player with the most gold wins. If it's still a tie, the player with the most goods wins. If it remains a tie, the game ends undecided.
The game can end in one of two ways: * The game ends at the end of the round in which one player plays their twelfth tribe card. If the current starting player ends the game this way, the opposing player still gets one complete turn to carry out all of their actions for that round. * The game can also end immediately if the robber reaches the fourth Raid card. In this situation, players must pay 1 Gold or 3 Victory Points, and then the game ends.
